Top Independent Canadian Rapper D’NME Gets Raw and Real in New Single “Untouchable”

he newest single from D’NME, “Untouchable,” shows the possibility of reaching success without having to compromise one’s true self. The rising rap star admits that the new track is one of the most special singles to him as he was as real as he can be when he made the song. The most daring part of it all was the fact that he did not compromise his work. He chose the path toward raw lyricism, and it worked.

Born in Toronto, Canada, D’NME, whose real name is Roderick Anson, had his humble beginnings in the Toronto rap scene back in the late 2000s. His first mixtape was The Death of Me. From then on, he explored and invested in the digital music industry, and soon after, he dropped his second mixtape,Guns & Roses, which garnered significant recognition online. He then went on to record an intro freestyle for radio personality and rapper Sway Calloway for his famous show Sway In The Morning.

In 2013, Hip Hop Weekly magazine featured D’NME in its Indie Grind Spotlight section. This was after the rapper made appearances on several underground mixtapes. Then in 2015, he released his third mixtape, I Smell Blood In The Water, hosted by DJ Smallz of Southern Smoke Radio. The mixtape was followed by the song “Bad AF,” featuring Adam Duncan, which became an online hit. In 2017, he released his EP Number One With A Bullet, which again garnered much attention online. Finally, in 2020, he became the first Canadian rapper ever to receive the award “Freestyle of the Week” on New York’s The DogHouse radio show. 

The rapper closed 2019 with over 400,000 streams and 250,000 listeners worldwide. He is a verified artist on the platform with over 47,000 monthly listeners. On YouTube, the rap artist has gained over 10,000 subscribers. Over the years, he has released several songs on Youtube. One of his songs, “The Stars,” reached 4.1 million views while “Can’t Nobody Do It My Way” featuring King Klutch and Kirsten Rea garnered over 2 million views.  

In 2020, D’NME released his latest single “Untouchable,” which already garnered over 150,000 streams on Spotify. D’NME emphasizes how special this song is for him because no compromises were made to the lyrics of the song. The song only features raw lyricism, which makes it more impactful for the listeners. The independent Canadian rapper has always advocated for artists to have complete artistic freedom and creative control over their songs. 

For him, success is possible without having to disguise one’s self.
